UT fans gather for send-off for Longhorns team, staff ahead of Sugar Bowl

Fans lined Bevo Boulevard on Wednesday as the team left to take on the Washington Huskies.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns are in the College Football Playoffs and will take on the Washington Huskies on New Year’s Day. UT fans had a big send-off for players and staff on Wednesday outside DKR Texas Memorial Stadium as the team left for New Orleans.

UT grad Megan Gigsby came out with her two dogs dressed as Bevo.

"This is Zora and Toro – Bevo backup and Bevo in training. We are here to support the team as they head off to the Sugar Bowl," she told KVUE.

On Wednesday morning, the players boarded buses.

UT junior Jamison Boyer is part of the Texas Pom Squad, who will be in New Orleans.

"We had a great season as a team. Really excited to see the Longhorns play in the playoffs," said Boyer.

Just before noon on Wednesday, the buses loaded with players and coaches and made its way down Bevo Boulevard. Fans were confident about the Longhorns' chances in the playoffs.

"I think they can win it all. They are ready, they are pumped, and they are peaking at the right time, man," said Gigsby.
