AUSTIN, Texas — On Sunday morning, the College Football Playoff (CFP) selection committee announced that the Texas Longhorns have made it into the CFP and will play the Washington Huskies at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.
Later that day on the University of Texas at Austin campus, there was lot of burnt orange and school spirit along The Drag as UT fans found out the Longhorns are in the CFP.
"I am so happy we made the playoffs," UT freshman Ella Dang said.
Dang was one of the many UT fans that went to the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday.
"Heard the band and everyone cheering, and the chants were just amazing," Dang said.
Now she's looking forward to attending the Longhorns' semifinal matchup against Washington in New Orleans on New Year's Day.
"So, I am going to go the Sugar Bowl. My dad went to UT – he's a big fan of UT football," Dang said.
She believes the Longhorns can go all the way this year.
On Sunday, Dang wore a Rose Bowl shirt from 2005 – the last time the Longhorns won it all.
"Winning the Rose Bowl back in 2005, my birth year, is crazy," Dang said.
Now Dang hopes the Longhorns can do it again. She said if the team gets to Houston – her hometown, where the National Championship game will be played this year – she will try to be there.
