AUSTIN, Texas — Two more Texas football standouts are heading to the NFL.
Star running back Jonathon Brooks and defensive tackle Byron Murphy II announced on Wednesday that they will be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Brooks, a third-year running back out of Hallettsville, tallied 18 total touchdowns in 22 games during his Texas career. He was having a breakout 2023 season before tearing his ACL in the Longhorns' win over TCU in November. Luckily for Brooks, reports say he's expected to be cleared to play by training camp in July.
Meanwhile, Murphy declared his intentions on social media after helping Texas reach the College Football Playoff. The North Texas native also spent three years rocking the burnt orange, becoming a premiere defensive lineman for the Longhorns.
"I would like to thank Coach Sark for allowing me to be a part of his program and giving me the opportunity to showcase my skill set on the highest stages of college football," Murphy wrote in the post.
Murphy finished his time at Texas with 70 total tackles and 8 sacks in just 39 games. Murphy took home several honors including Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2021.
Both announcements come just one day after wide receiver Xavier Worthy declared his intentions to go pro.
All three players are projected to hear their names called during the first two days of the NFL Draft, which will take place in Detroit from April 25-27.
