AUSTIN, Texas — Austin FC will sport some new threads in 2024.
On Thursday, the club revealed its new secondary kit, called the "Armadillo Kit."
The new cream-colored uniform will serve as the team's road option for 2024. The club's memorable green and black striped jerseys will still remain their primary kit.
The kit's name, the "Armadillo," is in reference to Armadillo World Headquarters, a popular music hall that sat on Barton Springs Road from 1970 until 1980. The venue was notable, as it is cited as being the spot where Austin's iconic music scene of the 1970s got its start.
In their announcement, the team drew parallels between the Armadillo and Austin FC, symbolizing the two as sharing a metaphorical "drumbeat" that brings people of all different backgrounds together.
In an interview with KVUE last week, team president Andy Loughnane shared some of the thought process that went behind the new design.
"For us, it's important to try to pay tribute to elements of the city and the community that came to life that long proceed us and allowed us to come here and represent Austin, but I'm pretty confident that this will be not just a fun story, but a pretty great fashion hit amongst our fans," Loughnane said.
