It's no secret athletes from Texas are doing well in Rio; Simone Biles earned gold in gymnastics while Simone Manuel got gold in swimming - just to name a few.
But Fred Kerley, is already looking towards Tokyo.
"I just love what I do,” said Kerley.
The former Taylor High School track star went to the Olympic Trials this year.
"It was a great experience, I learned a lot from the older guys and my coaches and stuff," said Kerley.
Ultimately he didn't qualify for Rio, but he did gain motivation to keep going.
Mike Tennill is recently retired but coached track at Taylor for 25 years. He had Fred on his team.
"When he went into high school I knew he had the makings of a really fine track athlete," said Tennill.
Tennill said Kerley would stay an hour after practice to get in an extra workout.
"Really hard work is the secret to his success," said Tennill.
Kerley trains 6 days a week, lifting weights and of course running.
But he said much of his success is due to his family support.
"They support me 100 percent of the way,” said Kerley.
And his family is following in his footsteps.
Kerley's brother 20-year-old Mylik was a star at Taylor as well, and now holds several track records at Stephen F. Austin. He plans to run with his brother at Texas A&M next year.
"I just looked up to my brothers whenever I was younger," said Mylik Kerley.
He said the secret to success is to focus.
"In the college level, everybody, everybody's like fast, so from there it’s like whoever can be the most focused," said Mylik Kerley.
Sister, 18-year-old Virginia, a senior at Taylor High School, won all-state this year. She said that's something a girl has never done before at Taylor.
"My whole family was athletes," said Virginia Kerley.
She said the people around them have helped the Kerley's achieve their goals.
"Our Taylor community is very supportive of what we do, we're family," said Virginia Kerley.
"This community is fantastic,” said Fred Kerley.
It's a community that is sure to support Fred Kerley, and hopefully his siblings, all the way to the Olympics.
Fred Kerley traveled to El Salvador in July to represent the United States in a North American track competition there. Their relay team won gold.
