AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns defeated Purdue 3-0 in the final game of a four-game series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field Sunday afternoon.
The win is Texas' second straight series victory.
Ready to wrap it up and go home, Texas got the party started in the first inning. D.J. Petrinsky knocked in two runs with a double, pushing the lead to 3-0. That would be all the offense they needed.
Texas starting pitcher Matt Whelan kept Purdue quiet for five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out three batters.
UT's relief pitchers followed suit. Neither Kamron Fields nor Cole Quintanilla allowed a run, completing a combined shutout by Longhorn pitchers.
The win pushes Texas to a 6-2 record. Next on the schedule is a midweek match-up with Sam Houston State on Tuesday at the Disch.
