AUSTIN, Texas — Mother Nature forced the Longhorns indoors for their final scrimmage before next Saturday's spring game, inside the bubble at Denius Practice Fields.
"I thought we competed defensively too many big plays," said Texas head coach Tom Herman.
"In the run game [offensively], too many big runs for the one defense [first-team defense], but the two O-line [second-team offensive line] I thought took a step back today."
But it was one scrimmage, with four practices remaining in spring camp.
"The old saying in coaching -- it's never as bad as you think it is and it's not as good as you think it is," said Herman.
Offensively, the Texas head coach said Jordan Whittington and Keaontay Ingram both produced long runs.
One notable offensive note regarding red-shirt freshman quarterback Casey Thompson was: "Casey had his best scrimmage."
On the injury front, Herman said defensive backs Chris Brown, Brandon Jones and Caden Sterns continue to make progress in their rehabilitation.
Herman said all have remained vocal during practices despite their injuries.
Brown is expected to return on Tuesday. Herman added that Brown is naturally full of energy and loves contact.
Freshman linebacker De'Gabriel Floyd is expected to miss the 2019 season. Floyd is dealing with spinal stenosis, the narrowing of the spinal column. He is currently undergoing an aggressive rehab program.
Perhaps the most entertaining exchange involved the topic of rap artist Ludacris. The three-time Grammy Award winner will perform at Longhorn City Limits after UT's spring game on Saturday, April 13.
Since Herman is an avid fan of R&B, rap and hip hop music, I asked him his thoughts on Ludacris's music.
"It's stuff you can enjoy listening to," said Herman.
"Some of that stuff [current rap music] today it's a little too slow for my liking, but we're ecstatic to have him here. It should be fun and that's one of the reasons why we reached out to him, because we want it to be fun."
