AUSTIN, Texas — The U.S. men's national team has officially added to its coaching staff ahead of its first games under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Jesus Perez will be the team's first assistant coach, with Miguel D'Agostino as assistant coach. Antonio Jimenez joins the squad as goalkeeper coach, with Mauricio Pochettino's son, Sebastiano Pochettino, filling the role of sports scientist.
Mauricio Pochettino took over the men's national team after Gregg Berhalter was fired in July following an embarrassing first-round exit at the Copa America.
Monday was Mauricio Pochettino's first day on-field day as the team's new boss ahead of a friendly against Panama on Saturday in Austin at Q2 Stadium. Ahead of the friendly, it was announced the Americans would be without Folarin Balogun, Johnny Cardoso and Tim Weah because of various injuries.
Mauricio Pochettino looks to execute his vision and build success in America after being part of the turbulent turnover at Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Despite winning the French league, he was fired 18 months into his contract at PSG.
He would then take over Chelsea for a season during a chaotic ownership period that led to him mutually parting ways with the club in May 2024.
“The decision to join U.S. Soccer wasn’t just about football for me; it’s about the journey that this team and this country are on,” Pochettino said in September.
Gianni Vio, a set piece coach hired under Berhalter, has remained with the team. Meanwhile, Berhalter's assistant coach, Vincent Cavin, left the team after less than a year.
