PHOENIX — WNBA star and Houston native Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle are expecting their first child.
The couple made the announcement on social media over the weekend. In a post on Instagram, Cherelle Griner showed photos of the ultrasound, announcing a July arrival date and had the message, “Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being. #BabyGrinerComingSoon #July2024”
Griner, who is a star in the WNBA with the Phoenix Mercury, is going into her 11th season in the league. She played her college basketball at Baylor. Before that, she was a star at Nimitz High School here in Houston.
The couple got engaged in 2018 and tied the knot the following year.

Griner, one of the most dominant players in WNBA history, had her career disrupted in 2022 when she spent 10 months in a Russian prison on a drug charge. She was released in a prisoner swap.
