World's Strongest Man gives back in Austin

Mark Henry, the world's strongest man, has charitable events scheduled in Austin on Saturday

Austin, TX – April 15, 2015 - ACTIVATE with Jack and Jill, an interactive event for Austin-area youth sponsored by the Austin Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, will focus on fitness, wellness and nutrition while featuring former Olympians and local athletes as special guests and presenters. The event will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 2:00 PM at Total Athlete ATX, the sports performance training facility for both youth and adults developed by former Longhorn football player, Derrick Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs. The event is hosted by Courtney Chadwick, Jana Perry Henry and Dr. Liz Holliman and was created with the intent to inspire youth to learn and grow their awareness of the importance of physical fitness, health and well being as well as nutrition. The hope is to create a fun environment to teach youth to embrace an active and balanced lifestyle. Media is invited to attend this event.

Mark Henry, two-time Olympic weightlifter and Wrestler with the WWE, also named the world's strongest man, will be present along with other Olympians and local athletes and physicians to serve as guest presenters and participants. Special guests also include Jeff Madden, former head strength coach at The University of Texas and President of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and Charles Austin, 1996 Olympic gold medalist in men's high jump and owner of So High Sports and Fitness. These and other special guests will be coaching at various interactive stations as part of a series of athletic challenges for participants, will be available for photo opportunities and will share their experiences with the youth attending.

Frances Smith, owner of Austin-based Diesel Foods, a culinary specialist in custom nutritional plans and sports nutrition including prepared foods and meals, will provide nutritious snacks and speak on the importance of healthy food choices while Austin-based pediatrician, Dr. Liz Holliman will share information regarding sport physicals, safety and healthy habits when engaged in physical activities and sports.

Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated was founded in 1938 by the late Marion Stubbs Thomas as a membership organization for mothers with children age two to nineteen dedicated to developing future African-American leaders by focusing on leadership, philanthropic volunteer service, and civic duty. The Austin Chapter was chartered in 1953 and through regularly scheduled events and programming focused on the family unit, enriches the lives of members and non-members in the local community.
