AUSTIN, Texas — Services for AT&T and T-Mobile at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport have been restored after an outage Thursday morning.
The outage was caused by a fiber that had been cut, which airport officials believe was an act of vandalism.
"We've restored service to affected customers in the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport area following a fiber cut which appears to be an act of vandalism. We appreciate the patience of our customers as we worked to make repairs as quickly as possible," a spokesperson said in a statement provided to KVUE.
According to a social media post from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), AT&T and T-Mobile users did not have access to phone calls or cell service for much of Thursday morning.
In a statement obtained by KVUE from AT&T, this outage was possibly caused by an intentional act.
"We are working as quickly as possible to repair a fiber cut which appears to be an act of vandalism and is affecting service for some customers in the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport area," the statement said. "We understand how essential it is for our customers to stay connected and expect to complete our restoration work soon."
The airport instructed those impacted to print out or take a photo of their boarding passes before arriving at AUS. Alternatively, customers can also check into their flights in person at an airport kiosk or ticketing desk.
No other airports appeared to experience internet problems on Thursday, but various services have reported connection issues internationally. AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Reuters are all experiencing issues abroad Thursday morning, many of which have yet to be resolved.
There was also a reported AT&T outage in the North Austin area, which can be tracked here.
