PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — Parents of Pflugerville ISD students can now breathe a sigh of relief if their children ride the bus but aren't always the best at getting ready on time. A new GPS-tracking app approved by the district allows parents to monitor bus routes in real-time.
According to a news release from the district, the Stopfinder app is currently being used by 15 PfISD schools. Officials are hoping to have it in place for the district's 21 elementary schools before winter break begins on Dec. 20, and the rollout will continue for the remaining PFISD schools in January.
PfISD's transportation executive director said the app utilizes GPS tracking available on each of the district's 191 buses. The buses came equipped with GPS when they were purchased, allowing the district to view bus locations in real-time as they moved along their routes. Now parents can do that as well.
According to the release, PfISD transportation officials provide parents with invitations to download the app so they can view their child's particular bus route. Parents using the app can control who views their student's assigned bus for the child's safety.
The app alerts users when buses have arrived or departed certain sites and can also track mileage and efficiency of routes.
