AUSTIN, Texas — Peak bluebonnet season is still a few months away, but some blooms have already been spotted around the Texas Hill Country.
So, what do horticulture experts think this means for the flowers come springtime?
Daphne Richards, a horticulture agent for Travis County AgriLife Extension, said we normally see bluebonnets in March or April and sometimes as late as May.
She said the early blooms are an encouraging sign and the sightings seem to be a new trend.

"It's not their common practice," Richards said. "With climate change and the weather being as sporadic as it is, it's not uncommon to see one or two pop early in the season these days."
Most of the area's bluebonnets are just green leaves right now. Horticulturists predict we will see more of the flowers across Texas in a matter of weeks – unless a freeze Wednesday night changes that.
