AUSTIN, Texas — In a new round of tech layoffs, website builder Wix has cut 100 jobs in Austin.
According to a report from the Austin Business Journal, the website builder sent a notice last week stating that 331 employees will be cut from the company in four cities, including the capital of the Lone Star State.
The layoffs will cut 6% of the company's workforce, but it is unknown how many employees will remain in the Austin office following the large cut.
Wix will also be cutting 62 jobs in Denver, 27 in San Francisco and 142 in Miami, according to the report. The layoffs don't have a specified reason outside of "unforeseen circumstances."
The laid-off employees' last day will April 16.
Wix joins the ranks of Google, Dell, Meta and other tech companies that have laid off significant numbers of their workforces over the last two months.
The website builder created a platform for individuals and small businesses to run their websites, and the company's footprint increased to around 6,000 employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Austin Business Journal report details that the company hasn't been able to retain that level of employees, and lost 100 jobs when it announced a three-year savings plan to cut $150 million in costs to increase cash flow in August.
The layoffs mainly affect employees in the customer care department, according to the report, and other positions include payments and policy experts, a support engineer, a talent-acquisition specialist and the site operations manager.
