AUSTIN, Texas — One person is dead after a multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 71 early Monday morning.
Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) said at around 5:15 a.m. that medics were on the scene of a reported multi-vehicle crash on West SH 71 with one person pinned. Extrication was in progress.
At 5:20 a.m., ATCEMS said the pinned person had been extricated and medics were performing CPR. A second patient was being evaluated, and ATCEMS said it was unlikely they would be transported.
At 5:36 a.m., ATCEMS said that despite life-saving efforts, the first patient was declared dead at the scene.
Drivers should expect closures as law enforcement officials continue to investigate the crash. As of 6:04 a.m., SH 71 is closed in both directions at Covered Bridge Drive.
Drivers are encouraged to use Southwest Parkway as an alternate route. The Texas Department of Transportation said this accident will take some time to clear.
