DEL VALLE, Texas — Austin Fire Department (AFD) crews responded to a reported high-speed T-bone crash on State Highway 71 near Del Valle late Monday night.

The AFD said at 10:54 p.m. that crews were responding to a vehicle rescue in the intersection of the eastbound SH 71 service road and westbound FM 973. Callers reported a T-bone collision at a "high rate of speed" and that one person was pinned inside a vehicle.

A few minutes later, AFD said crews on the scene were working to get the pinned person out of the vehicle and providing medical care to other patients.

Just after 11 p.m., the pinned person was successfully removed from the vehicle. That patient and another person were then taken to EMS medics for care and possible transport to a hospital.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area.
