1 injured following fiery crash involving 18-wheeler on North I-35

All of the occupants were able to get out of their vehicles.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Fire Department (AFD) crews and Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) medics are responding to a crash involving an 18-wheeler in North Austin on Thursday morning.

At 9:46 a.m. Thursday, AFD said it was responding to a report of a car underneath an 18-wheeler in the 11900 block of the North Interstate 35 southbound service road, near Parmer Lane. AFD said ATCEMS medics were also responding.

A few minutes later, AFDS said the 18-wheeler was on fire and firefighters were working to extinguish the flames while also searching for life inside the vehicles.

At 9:51 a.m., AFD said all of the occupants were out of the vehicles and the call was no longer considered a vehicle rescue. The semi-truck and vehicles were still on fire, and crews were working to put the flames out.

ATCEMS said at 9:53 a.m. that medics were assessing the people involved in the crash, and that drivers should expect major traffic delays.

At 10:30 a.m., ATCEMS said one patient was being transported to a hospital with potentially serious injuries. Another patient refused transport.
