AUSTIN, Texas — Part of State Highway 45 near the US 183 toll road was closed Monday morning following a fatal crash between a pick-up truck and an 18-wheeler.
The crash happened at around 6:45 a.m. Austin police said the truck crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer, and the driver of the truck was killed. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
All westbound lanes of SH 45 near the US 183 toll road were closed from Lake Creek Parkway until the end of the toll. Traffic was being diverted to the frontage road. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area and find alternate routes if possible.
The Austin Police Department said this is being investigated as Austin's fourth crash of the year, resulting in four deaths. On Feb. 5, 2023, 10 fatal crashes resulted in 10 deaths.
