During the incident, KVUE crews discovered that traffic had been backed up for three miles in both directions.

AUSTIN, Texas — A cement truck rolled over on Friday, causing all lanes of traffic to be closed on State Highway 71. One person suffered potentially serious injuries.

At around 11 a.m. on March 31, a cement truck traveling at the intersection of 71 and Rivercliff Drive rolled over. This resulted in debris and cement being projected from the truck across all lanes of 71, creating a total shutdown in both directions.

Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the scene. STAR Flight was also dispatched to assist the driver. Emergency responders discovered that the driver was trapped within the truck, and the extent of their injuries was unknown at the time.

An hour after the initial incident, at 12:04 p.m., the driver was extricated from the truck and taken by STAR Flight to a nearby Dell Seton hospital with potentially serious injuries.

During the incident, KVUE crews discovered that traffic had been backed up for three miles in both directions. Lanes of 71 were slowly being reopened by local fire crews and the Texas Department of Transportation as of Friday afternoon.
