AUSTIN, Texas — Four vehicle crashes occurred throughout Austin in the overnight hours on Sunday, leaving one person dead and six people injured.
Of the four crashes that happened on Oct. 30, two of them occurred on the northside of Austin and the other two occurred on the southside. One of the northside crashes was fatal.
At around 4:30 a.m., Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) was called out to the 6700 block of North Interstate Highway 35 northbound to a collision with a person. The Austin Police Department (APD) and the Austin Fire Department (AFD) also responded to the incident.
Once first responders were on scene, ATCEMS medics declared the person dead on the scene. No further information regarding this event is available at this time.
The second crash in North Austin occurred at 4:15 a.m. on East U.S. 290 Highway. ATCEMS medics and STAR Flight were called out to the 11000-11017 block of E. U.S. 290 Hwy eastbound for a two vehicle head-on collision. Medics discovered that three people were in need of transport.
One person, who was identified as a trauma alert, was later transported to Dell Seton Hospital by STAR flight with serious injuries. The other two people were transported to St. David's North with non-life threatening injuries.
The other two collisions occurred in South Austin. One of the collisions involved striking a person at the intersection of Menchaca Road and Parkside Lane. ATCEMS was called out to the intersection at around 1 a.m. The person was declared a trauma alert and was transported to St. David's South with life-threatening injures. There is no further information at this time.
The other crash that occurred in South Austin happened at around 1:15 a.m. with a pedestrian crossing the street at Metropolis Drive. ATCEMS responded to the 2800-3020 block of South U.S. Highway 183 southbound, where two vehicles had collided with a person. Once on the scene, medics discovered that the person was entrapped between the vehicles and an extrication was in progress.
There was another person injured in the collision and was being treated on scene. Once the entrapped person was successfully extricated, both people were labeled as trauma alerts and transported to local hospitals. One was taken to Dell Seton with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries, and the other was taken to St. David's South with potentially serious injuries.
