GEORGETOWN, Texas — Georgetown officials are looking to address one of the city's busiest intersections: Interstate 35 and University Avenue, near Wolf Ranch Parkway.
Community Impact reports that City of Georgetown leaders attribute the increased congestion to housing and retail development in the area and growth further west on Highway 29, between Georgetown and Liberty Hill.
An assistant city manager told Community Impact that the intersection wasn't designed for the volume of traffic it sees. Now officials with the City, Williamson County and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) are trying to find solutions.
Officials hope to widen a portion of Highway 29 near Wolf Ranch Parkway from a divided roadway with four lanes to one with six lanes. Construction on that is expected to begin in fall 2025.
City staff also want to widen Wolf Ranch Parkway from Highway 29 to Rivery Boulevard, making it four lanes with a median. There is currently no timeline for this project.
TxDOT said a feasibility study of Highway 29 from Georgetown to Bertram will start later this year to see what kind of improvements can be made.
