AUSTIN, Texas — Traffic at the Interstate 35 and US 183 interchange is about to become much smoother for travelers.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced Thursday it will be opening a new northbound US 183 to northbound I-35 flyover at the I-35 and US 183 interchange.
In order to complete the work on this flyover, crews will need to temporarily reduce lanes on northbound I-35 and northbound US 183 between 8 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday for striping, weather permitting. The flyover will then be open to traffic after 5 a.m. Friday.
This is the final flyover to be built as a part of the I-35 from Rundberg Lane to US 290 East project, TxDOT officials said. The project has added three new flyovers at the I-35/US 183 interchange and reconstructed the northbound I-35 to northbound US 183 flyover.
The last flyover portion of this project opened back in September, KVUE reported.
TxDOT officials said in a press release that after opening this final flyover, the remaining project activities include reconstructing various entrance and exit ramps along I-35 and US 183, widening the southbound I-35 bridge over US 290 East, installing high-mast illumination, reconstructing the northbound I-35 frontage road and driveways between US 290 East and US 183, and paving and striping the northbound and southbound I-35 mainlanes.
The $124.2 million Texas Clear Lanes project began construction in 2018 and is expected to finish up in early 2022. For more information, visit My35Construction.org.
