AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: The above video is a traffic update from when the lanes remained closed.
A deadly crash on Interstate 35 near Wells Branch Parkway caused traffic delays Wednesday morning.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that a man was hit and killed by a car while trying to cross the southbound lanes of I-35 on foot. The driver remained on the scene, and DPS said there are no charges pending.
The crash led to to lane closures on I-35 between Wells Branch and Grand Avenue parkways. However, as of 6:15 a.m., DPS said the roadway had been reopened.
During the lane closures, drivers were encouraged to take State Highway 45 to the Mopac Expressway or US 183, depending on where they work. KVUE Daybreak's Hannah Rucker said that as of 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, traffic was backed up past Picadilly Drive.
In response to the crash, DPS is reminding all drivers to minimize distractions, obey traffic control devices, always wear their seatbelts, avoid driving fatigued and to not drink and drive.
