Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce provides traffic forecast update

Kyle is growing quickly and there's a lot of work happening, so the chamber CEO wants to make sure businesses know what to expect.

KYLE, Texas —

The Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce is giving an update on the city's traffic forecast Tuesday morning.

The program, "Driving Change": A Transportation and Traffic Forecast, will give businesses a breakdown of upcoming road improvement projects and the impacts they may have for traffic flow.

Kyle is growing quickly and there's a lot of work going on, so Chamber CEO Julie Snyder said the city just wants to make sure businesses know what to expect and are prepared.

"We know that we're going to have our have to pack our patience over the next few years," Snyder said.

In 2022, Kyle voters passed a nearly $300 million road bond for numerous road improvement projects. At the luncheon on Tuesday, residents will receive a status update from the mayor on where those projects stand.

A representative from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will also be there to give an update on several other improvements and expansions happening throughout Kyle and Hays County.

"Our leadership through TxDOT, through the city of Kyle and our county, they're really looking at improving the traffic flow based on the growth of not only our citizens, but also the businesses that are coming to town," Snyder said.

Snyder said with the construction and growth, this update was something businesses wanted – but it's something that impacts everyone who drives through Kyle.

"I think they should care because it's going to affect their life. We all travel these roads on a daily basis, whether it's our visitors coming to the area, our new residents, our businesses," Snyder said. "We'll appreciate it once it's finished and completed, but we have to be prepared for it because it will be a little bit of challenge."

A local business owner said he's seen the work going on around town and is happy officials are being proactive as the city grows.

"I'm glad they are because the progress is coming. The population is going to expand. They are improving development, so we might as well have the roads good," Spencer Thomas, co-owner of Texas Pie Company, siad. "It's good if they plan for the development that's coming rather than react to the development that's already happening."

But he also said he hopes officials don't forget about the downtown area, where his business is located. He likes to see the improvements and new development, but he doesn't want the older parts of the city neglected.

Some of the projects that will be discussed include the rail crossings along Center Street, future roundabouts and traffic signals, as well as the timelines of those projects.

The luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. Learn more.
