AUSTIN, Texas — Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) is warning drivers of extended road closures on northbound MoPac Expressway after a deadly crash early Monday morning.
ATCEMS tweeted at 6 a.m. Monday that medics and fire crews were on the scene of a reported two-vehicle head-on collision with one patient pinned inside their vehicle on northbound MoPac near Windsor Road. Extrication was in progress.
Shortly after, ATCEMS said medics had pronounced one male adult patient dead at the scene. Another male patient was being evaluated and was later transported to Seton Medical Center with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials later confirmed the crash was a wrong-way driver situation. The driver going the wrong direction was the patient declared dead at the scene.
ATCEMS said drivers should expect extended road closures in the area. At around 6:30 a.m., the Texas Department of Transportation said MoPac had been reduced to one lane near Windsor Road due to the crash.
No additional information is available at this time.
Elsewhere, a police situation has caused a closure of the Congress Avenue bridge.
