Pflugerville — There are going to be some big changes happening on another busy road in Central Texas -- one that should provide some long-term relief for drivers.
Starting Thursday, crews will start working to widen SH-130 from Manor up to Pflugerville.
The work will happen along a high-speed part of the road stretching from U.S. 290 South up to Highway 45. In this eastern part of Central Texas, SH-130 is a highway used by a lot of people that need to drive into Austin for work. However, it can get congested with only two lanes going north and south. Once this project is completed, there will be three lanes in both directions.
During this adjustment period, the 80-mile an hour speed limit will be reduced to 70 miles per hour. This is a $36.7 Million project that the Central Texas Turnpike System is funding. This organization has a goal of bringing congestion relief to I-35 and surrounding roads in the Travis and Williamson Counties.
If you keep driving south from U.S. 290 on SH-130, a second project to widen this part of SH-130 from U.S. 290 Down to SH-71 is expected to begin early next year.
There will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the first project on Thursday at 10 a.m.
The lanes are expected to be added and the speed limit brought back to normal by late 2020.
