AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) wants to hear from the public regarding a draft for its 2024 Unified Transportation Program (UTP).
The UTP will total $100 billion – $15 billion more than the 2023 plan – and is part of TxDOT's 10-year transportation plan. According to TxDOT, the plan's cost increase is due to the "growth in revenues from Proposition 1 generated by oil and gas severance fees dedicated to highway improvements."
“The UTP is TxDOT’s road map to developing projects across the state,” TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams said. “It’s important to work with our transportation partners and hear from the public to guide transportation improvements that address congestion and enhance safety.”
The UTP will include projects that would help improve safety, address congestion and connectivity and preserve roadways for Texas drivers. It will also address public transportation, maritime, aviation, rail, freight and international trade and bicycle and pedestrian connectivity.
The public had a chance to weigh in on the draft during a virtual meeting on Thursday, July 6, at 2 p.m. There will also be a virtual public hearing on Tuesday, July 25 at 2 p.m. Those interested in attending can learn more here.
There will also be a public comment period starting on Friday, July 7, and ending on Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. If you would like to leave a comment, you can do so on the Public Involvement section of TxDOT's website.
