AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is warning drivers to take extra caution ahead of the annular eclipse that will be visible throughout much of the state, including Central Texas, on Saturday from late morning until early afternoon.
TxDOT officials believe that spectators attempting to get a perfect view of the eclipse will cause a higher-than-average number of drivers to be on Highway 290 and I-10 in Gillespie County, as well as on I-35 in Comal County.
TxDOT is urging drivers to plan ahead due to these possible delays and give extra time to get to their destinations before and after the eclipse is visible.
TxDOT is also emphasizing that drivers pull over at a safe location to watch the eclipse and avoid stopping on the roadway or parking on the shoulder to view it.
