AUSTIN, Texas — Lisa Walker wanted to know when certain local roads are going to be repaved.
She thinks a couple of roads are too narrow for the growing community and in such bad shape that they’ve cost her hundreds of dollars.
Old Post Road is framed with rude awakenings: pothole after pothole after pothole.
“It's like a washboard. It's horrible,” Walker said.
She lives in a subdivision nearby and believes the concrete plant, with its big trucks coming and going, contributes to the crumbling of the roads.
There’s a similar problem on County Road 158, which intersects with Old Post.
Recently, Walker had to scoot to the side of the narrow road to make way for a truck. She hit a pothole.
“It was a slam stop and then when I started going again, I realized the whole tire had come off the rim,” she said. “Thank God I was not going faster because I would have flipped my car.”
The force bent the wheel – a $600 repair.
Kyle and Hays County both told KVUE fixes are coming. The city and county are hammering out a joint effort to widen Old Post, repave it and add shoulders.
And a county spokesman said a similar plan is in place to fix a portion of County Road 158.
“Well, if it gets done, then that will be great. But I'm kind of skeptical,” Walker said.
The part of 158 that chewed up Walker’s wheel is within the city and isn't slated for repairs. But repairs on the portion the county controls, just down the road, should start by mid-summer.
Work on Old Post in Kyle doesn’t have a date set, but a Kyle spokesperson believes it will start in the summer of next year.
If you have an issue with our roads, let KVUE's Mike Rush know about it. He'll try to get answers to see what, if anything, will be done to make improvements. Sent an email to whatthebeep@kvue.com.
