Austin's cooling centers extend hours due to extreme heat

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Central Texas.

AUSTIN, Texas — Due to the extreme heat, the City of Austin will extend hours for cooling center locations over the holiday weekend.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Central Texas.

To beat the heat, Parks and Recreation facilities will have the following hours:

  • Sunday, June 18: open until 8 p.m.
  • Monday, June 19: some facilities will be open as cooling centers, but City buildings and facilities will be closed for the Juneteenth holiday

The City said that times and locations for cooling centers change. You can get updates on the City's website.
