Timeline: Rain and storms likely for Central Texas Saturday night and Sunday morning

Wet weather could have an impact on your holiday travels. Here's the latest.

AUSTIN, Texas — An active weather pattern continues for Central Texas with another round of widespread rain and storms in the forecast for Saturday night into Sunday morning. We don't expect severe weather, but one or two of these storms could be on the strong side. There could also be pockets of locally heavy rainfall.

Let's start with the timeline...

As of about 8 a.m. Sunday morning, heavier rains are moving east of the I-35 corridor, while widespread light and scatted showers remain in the Hill Country.

Rain and storms will be moving past the Austin metro through 9 a.m. Sunday morning. The majority of the region will be dry by noon.

For those with travelling plans ahead of Christmas, it's likely wise to let these storms pass through early in the day, and then drive during the afternoon when storms will be moving into east Texas.

Behind the leading edge there could be some lingering rain through late morning and early afternoon, but by mid afternoon all of the rain will have exited the KVUE area.

We expect a widespread half-inch to inch-and-a-half of rainfall for the KVUE area. Some pockets of 2 to 3 inches will be possible. This is mainly beneficial rain that we need given our drought conditions, but we can't completely rule out some localized street flooding.

Again, please be mindful if you'll be hitting the roads through the first half of Sunday.

In the wake of the rain and storms, a cold front will slide through Central Texas Sunday night. This will bring a much chillier forecast for Christmas Day! The morning will be in the 40s, and the afternoon will be in mid to upper 50s.

Travel conditions across Central Texas look much quieter in the wake of Christmas heading into New Years.
