AUSTIN, Texas — Happy Halloween, Austin!
The cold temperatures for the last days of October have been a little frightening for some, but Mother Nature just wants us in the holiday spirit before we head into November.
On the bright side, all this rainy weather will have exited the region by Tuesday morning. But we will still need to deal with the cooler temperatures for a while longer.
Cool, cloudy and breezy conditions will be the weather story Tuesday morning.
Temperatures will begin in the upper 30s and lower 40s throughout the region, then warm into at least the lower 50s for the afternoon. Our forecasted high is 56 degrees, which should occur between 4 and 6 p.m.
By the time trick-or-treaters are headed outside, the chilly air will be settling in once again, with cloud cover clearing out and winds staying elevated. "Feels like" temperatures will drop back to the 40s and 30s as the evening goes on. Make sure your little ones have another layer underneath their costumes.
Yes, this Halloween is going to be a chilly one for folks and could be one of the coldest Austin has seen ever.
Our lowest high temperature on Halloween occurred in 1991 at 50°F. But the coldest average of Halloween temperatures occurred in 1993, with a high of 58° and a low of 30°, evening out to 43 degrees.
The current forecast for Halloween 2023 would put the average temperature at 47 degrees, making it the fourth coolest on record. However, if we are going by high temperatures only, then a high ranging between 51 to 56 degrees would put this year's Halloween in second place for coldest.
Of course, temperatures will have to be verified as we head through the day Wednesday, but nonetheless, Austinites should consider this Halloween to be a chilly one all around.
