AUSTIN, Texas — February 2024 is officially in the top five warmest Februarys on record for Austin going into the final day of the month. However, Mother Nature has sent us a quick shot of winter to close out an otherwise much warmer than average month.
Thursday will be a chilly winter day. Temperatures will mostly hover in the 40s all day long under a cloudy sky. Remember, a few days ago, temperatures were in the upper 80s. Now it will be a struggle to hit 50.
The average high for this time of the year is in the upper 60s.
It won't just be chilly, it will also be damp at times, with a 30% to 40% chance for light showers and maybe a downpour or two. We don't expect much heavy rain because of dry air in the lower part of the atmosphere, but it will certainly feel like winter with light rain around and temperatures hovering in the 40s to lower 50s.
If you're a fan of warmer weather, don't worry. We hop back on the temperature roller coaster for the end of this week and this weekend. Sunshine and a warm south breeze return Friday afternoon and temperatures will soar into the 70s.
We'll be back in the low 80s by this weekend, and the warm weather continues into the first half of next week. As far as additional rain chances, we're keeping an eye on next Monday for a chance for scattered showers and storms. We will have more on that in the coming days.
The KVUE Weather Team will continue to closely monitor this developing forecast.
