AUSTIN, Texas — A strong cold front cleared through Central Texas on Thursday and, behind it, temperatures will continue to quickly drop through Friday morning. Parts of Central Texas will drop below freezing, especially west of Austin.
The immediate metro may stay around a light freeze, but sub-freezing temps are fair game for the suburbs and more outlying spots.
The wind will continue to calm throughout Friday. The afternoon will be mostly sunny and cool with highs in the mid to upper 50s. Gusts around 20 mph will still be possible. Combining this with the low dew point values we're monitoring means that we will once again be tracking elevated fire weather conditions. Avoid any outdoor burning.
The weekend forecast is looking pretty nice with highs in the 60s on Saturday, and then upper 60s to low 70s on Sunday. The weekend will be dry, but Sunday will feature more cloud cover, especially by the afternoon.
Next week's forecast looks quite unsettled. Highs will near 80 degrees by Monday and Tuesday with a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms both days. We're then tracking a strong cold front that will move through around Tuesday night.
That could drop afternoon temperatures all the way down to the 40s or cooler for Wednesday and Thursday. There could also be some additional precipitation behind the front for the middle of the week.
Some of the long-range forecast models have hinted at some wintry precipitation for parts of the KVUE area on Wednesday or Thursday. We'll keep an eye on this potential over the next few days but, as of now, we have just cold rain showers on our 7-day forecast.
The KVUE Storm Team will continue to closely monitor the forecast over the coming days.
In the meantime, here is a look at your extended forecast.
