AUSTIN, Texas — As winds have flowed out of the north and west behind Monday morning's cold front, we are now seeing another spike in cedar pollen across Central Texas.

Yet again, we've seen another cedar surge in our allergy count from Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. Friday morning's allergy count revealed 940 gr/m3 of cedar, which is significantly higher than the 259 gr/m3 from Thursday morning's allergy count. Our allergy forecast projects cedar levels will remain elevated at least until the weekend. Our next cold front will arrive late New Year's Eve and will most likely bring another surge of cedar by Monday or Tuesday of next week.

It did take a couple of days to get here, but from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Dec. 27, a large plume of cedar moved into Austin. Grains per cubic meter were reported above 3,000 during Wednesday morning's spike; however, the amount of pollen leveled off Wednesday afternoon.
