AUSTIN, Texas — The triple-digit temperatures and an increase in electrical demand has led ERCOT to issue a Weather Watch.
The watch will run from Thursday, June 15, through Wednesday, June 21.
“ERCOT has issued its first Weather Watch to let Texans know that we are forecasting increased demand due to the higher temperatures expected this week and into next week,” said Pablo Vegas, ERCOT's president and CEO. “Grid conditions are normal when we issue a Weather Watch. ERCOT continues to monitor conditions closely and will deploy all available tools to manage the grid and will continue our reliability-first approach to operations, always prioritizing grid reliability.”
ERCOT's Supply and Demand dashboard shows the possibility of new peak demand this week. ERCOT said it has enough capacity to meet the demand.
ERCOT reported 11 new peak demand records last year with over 80 GWs. The record, which was set on July 20, 2022, was 80.148 MWs.
