Dynamic storm system arrives early next week

Storms and strong winds will be possible this upcoming Monday. Here's what we're tracking.

AUSTIN, Texas — **A Wind Advisory is in effect from noon Monday through noon Tuesday. Sustained winds our of the northwest will range from 20-30 mph, with gust of 40-50 mph possible.**

So far, 2024 has delivered on some much needed beneficial rain for Central Texas. Most of the Austin metro picked up at least an inch of rainfall with our last system this past week, as well as an additional half-inch to three quarters of an inch Thursday night into early Friday morning.

We're now likely to add a bit more to those totals as a fairly active weather pattern continues. This will include a chance for storms with a strong cold front early next week.

Let's breakdown what you need to know.

A few of these storms could be strong to severe on Monday, depending on how all of the storm ingredients come together. As of now, it looks like the highest severe weather risk will be east of Austin.

The Storm Prediction Center currently has most of the KVUE area in a "marginal" – 1 out of 5 – risk for severe weather for Monday, with strong winds embedded in these storms as the main threat.

Even if the severe weather threat does not materialize, we expect very strong pressure gradient winds with this system for Monday night and Tuesday morning. It's several days away, but computer models are in agreement that there could be wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph, and a couple of models even have 50 mph gusts possible.

This strong northwest wind will also bring in a much cooler air mass for Tuesday of next week.
