Hot and dry for ACL Weekend Two; strong storms possible Sunday night

Sunday will be the hottest day of the weekend with highs in the mid-90s and near triple-digit feels-like temperatures.

AUSTIN, Texas — A warm weekend is underway for Central Texas! Sunday will be our hottest day of the weekend with a high near 94 degrees. Morning clouds will give way to afternoon clearing with feels like temperatures near 100 degrees.

It will also be quite breezy with wind gusts up to 30 mph possible. Make sure to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen if you're heading to the final day of ACL!

The day on Sunday will stay dry, but a cold front will bring rain and storms starting Sunday evening. These storms will push eastward across Central Texas through the late evening and overnight. Latest computer models show that storms could be moving into the Austin metro around midnight or 1 a.m.

A few of these storms could be strong with gusty winds and large hail. Make sure you're paying attention to the forecast and have a way to receive warnings Sunday night.

The higher severe weather risk will likely stay in North Texas and Oklahoma, however, the Storm Prediction Center now includes most of Central Texas in the "marginal" – level 1 of 5 – risk for severe storms Sunday night. The main risks will be damaging wind gusts and large hail.

Behind this cold front, Monday afternoon and Tuesday look breezy but mainly dry with highs in the 80s to low 90s. Then a second system arrives Wednesday.

This one will bring another round of scattered showers and storms with rain chances lasting through the back half of the week as the front stalls out somewhere near Central Texas. Some Pacific moisture could also help elevate rain chances.

This would increase rainfall accumulation with computer models now showing one to three inches of widespread rain, but several areas could exceed three inches, especially across the Hill Country.

A third cold front will move through Friday into Saturday. This could be our first strong fall front of the season with the current forecast calling for highs to drop to the 70s for next weekend.

The KVUE Storm Team will continue to monitor the forecast closely and will provide updates on-air and online ahead of and throughout ACL.

In the meantime, here is a look at your extended forecast:
