Temperature swing on the way for Central Texas

Keep the extra layers handy this weekend before we warm back up.

AUSTIN, Texas — Get ready Central Texas. We're in for a wild temperature ride. Here's what we can expect.

Cold weekend mornings

We had a chilly Saturday, and Sunday will start off cold as well.

We're looking at a widespread light freeze for your Sunday morning, and wind chills could get down into the 20s in many areas. This will have an impact on the Austin Marathon, which starts at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

As we head into Monday afternoon, things will start to change temperature-wise, and in a really big way.

Warmup to start next week

The main reason for the cooldown this weekend has been a stout northerly flow behind an Arctic front. However, as we head into Monday, we get a good southerly flow, which will allow for a good warmup despite another chilly morning Sunday.

Highs should get to the lower 70s by Monday afternoon. But that's not the warmest day of the next five. We'll be getting to the upper 70s and even lower 80s as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday.
