AUSTIN, Texas — After last week's abnormally warm temperatures, it's time to find your winter sweaters because cooler weather is on the way!
A dry cold front moved through Central Texas early Friday and will reinforce cooler conditions. Afternoon highs were near average on Thursday in the mid-60s, but fell into the 50s by Friday.
We normally trend around 64 degrees in the afternoons this time of the year, but we'll be trending about 10 degrees cooler this weekend. On top of the chilly temperatures, we'll be monitoring isolated rain chances on Saturday and Sunday. Scattered rain chances return for the beginning of next week as we monitor another possible upper-level disturbance.
Our afternoons aren't the only time we'll be trending below average. We can expect cold nights ahead as temperatures drop into the upper 30s for Austin. Some areas in the Hill Country are forecast to experience a light freeze, so it's important to protect your pets and plants! We'll continue to experience overnight low temperatures in the 30s through the weekend.
If you're looking for warmer weather, you'll be hard pressed to find any in the extended forecast. In fact, the eight- to 14-day temperature outlook shows below-average temperatures are expected for a majority of the country for Christmas.
