AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin airport reached 100 degrees on Friday marking the 5th latest triple digit heat on record for the reporting site. We stay quite hot over the weekend, but we are tracking some small changes to our weather pattern for next week that will bring cooler temperatures and rain chances.
Saturday morning will begin with low clouds, and then the afternoon will clear to sunshine with highs in the mid to upper 90s. For any Longhorn fans heading out to the Texas - ULM game, we expect a 7 p.m. kick off temperature of 92 with a feels like of 97 and no chance for rain through the game.
Sunday will feature another round of mid 90s as we wait on a weak "cool front" to get here on Monday. The front will reach Central Texas by the afternoon, and will likely stall over our area. This will kick off a stretch of slightly cooler temperatures as behind the front we also see a weak upper level disturbance move in from the west that could help to bring isolated to scattered showers and storms for Tuesday and Wednesday. This is not the type of weather pattern that will bring slam dunk rain chances where everyone gets rain, but at least we'll have 20 to 30 percent rain chances in the forecast for the middle of next week.
In the tropics we continue to monitor the western Caribbean and southern Gulf where there is now a 50 percent chance for tropical development over the next 7 days. It's still too early to know how things will play out with this system if it does in fact develop, but we'll continue to provide updates over the weekend as we gain clarity on the forecast.
