Dry conditions expected for those traveling to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl

No weather issues are expected for those hitting the road to watch the Longhorns.

AUSTIN, Texas — Many will be heading to New Orleans for the College Football Playoff Semifinal, as the Texas Longhorns face the Washington Huskies at the Caesar's Superdome on New Year's Day.

As such, we expect many to be making the trip from Austin to New Orleans, whether it be on an eight-hour drive along US-290 and Interstate 10 or on a flight from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). Either way, we expect calm conditions for Friday and the weekend in both Austin and New Orleans, as well as along the aforementioned US 290 and Interstate 10.

While we expect to be cool Friday in Austin and New Orleans, both locations should see a gradual warmup through the weekend.

However, a frontal system that'll come through Austin on New Year's Eve night ringing in 2024 will also head through New Orleans early on New Year's Day. With the added moisture available in New Orleans, expect there to be a few showers to start the day in the Big Easy which could also linger into the start of the tailgates, but do expect things to clear up closer to kickoff.

Kickoff is at 7:45 p.m. Monday evening, and temperatures should be in the upper 50s to lower 60s outside of the Superdome, but weather will not play a role in the game, as it is obviously being held indoors. However, it could be a breezy occasion for those in New Orleans, as that northwesterly flow behind the front takes hold.
