AUSTIN, Texas — It's a busy travel week ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, and we're not tracking big rain or storm chances for Central Texas. However, we have our eyes on multiple cold fronts for this week that will bring a rollercoaster-like temperatures to the Lone Star State.
The first cold front will arrive Monday afternoon, and it will briefly cool us down for Tuesday. Temperatures will rebound again on Wednesday ahead of a stronger cold front Wednesday night. This second cold front will bring a chill to the air for Thanksgiving that will likely stick around into the weekend and even through the start of December.
Cold front #1 arrives on Monday
Ahead of the cold front, it will be sunny and very warm for the early afternoon on Monday. The high temperature in Austin will soar to about 84 degrees around 2 p.m. or so in the afternoon just ahead of the front.
Behind the front, the wind will pick up and temperatures will begin to drop in the late afternoon into the evening.
Temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s by Tuesday morning, and high temperatures on Tuesday will stay in the 60s under a partly cloudy sky.
Cold front #2 bring a cool down for Thanksgiving
Our second cold front of the week will be even stronger than the first. The timing continues to speed up, so it now looks like the front will blow through Central Texas Wednesday night and will already be to our south by Thanksgiving morning.
This means temperatures Thanksgiving morning for any turkey-trotters will be in the 40s and 50s with a brisk north wind, and the afternoon will stay in the upper 50s to low 60s under a partly cloudy sky.
The cooler weather will have more staying power behind this second front. 30s and 40s are in the forecast for the morning of Black Friday, and the afternoon will stay in the 50s to low 60s once again.
Additional pushes of cool air will likely continue over the weekend and into the start of December. The Climate Prediction Center continues to favor cooler than average temperatures through December 4th.
The KVUE Weather Team will continue to closely monitor this developing forecast.
