Still hot for Sunday, but relief is on the way for next week

Pumpkin spice season is starting with more spice than usual this year.

AUSTIN, Texas — Editor's note: The KVUE Storm Team will no longer be updating this article. Click here for the latest forecast.

It's officially fall here in Central Texas, but you wouldn't know it by looking at where we've been over this past weekend. We've managed to avoid triple-digit heat this week, but it's still going to be quite toasty over the weekend.

It looks like we end the year with 68 triple digit days, which will tie for third-most on record.

Do we get a break from the heat anytime soon? It's possible for the upcoming week.

The reason that this relief will take place is because a weak cold front will slide through Central Texas Sunday night and will provide a slight relief from the summer-like heat. Again, you won't need the jackets or flannels just yet, but plan on afternoon high temperatures falling back to the low 90s, if not upper 80s, by the end of the week.

Expect more seasonable morning conditions as overnight lows are expected to drop in the lower and mid-60s. Some isolated areas might even drop into the 50s! Additionally, dew points will be in the 40s or less, making for very comfortable afternoons
