AUSTIN, Texas — Austin was just one degree off from the record high Tuesday afternoon at 105 degrees, and more triple-digit heat is expected through at least Saturday. However, we're now seeing signs of a small pattern change that could bring a little drop in temperatures as well as slight chances for rain by early next week.
Before we get to that, we still have more serious heat in the forecast for Wednesday. A Heat Advisory is in effect for nearly all of the KVUE area from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with "feels like" temperatures up to 110 possible. Milam County is under an Excessive Heat Warning until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The air temperature will reach 104 degrees in Austin under a sunny sky. There is no chance for rain.
The numbers will gradually come down for the end of the work week and the beginning of the weekend as the "heat dome" finally shifts eastward. The high temperatures will still be warmer than average for this time of the year, but expect lower triple digits Friday and Saturday, and then upper 90s starting on Sunday!
It's not just a drop in temperatures, but also the possibility of small rain chances. It's not going to be a slam dunk that we get rain, but we'll start isolated rain chances on the 4th of July, and we hope those will continue through the middle and end of next week as well.
The Climate Prediction Center now includes the KVUE area in a decent likelihood of above average precipitation in the July 3rd through 7th time frame.
The KVUE Weather Team will continue to closely monitor this developing forecast.
