Heavy rain, flooding possible again this week for Central Texas

Two to four inches of rain is possible. Some spots might even see more than that through Wednesday.

CENTRAL TEXAS — Whoever is praying for rain, please stop!

The Hill Country has gone from extreme drought to extreme flooding in less than two months.

More rain, some likely heavy, is coming back to Central Texas this week and there is growing concern for more flooding for area rivers and lakes.

Two to four inches of more rain is possible with some spots perhaps seeing more through Wednesday.

RELATED: Austin's Lake Travis levels expected to continue slow decline into Monday

High pressure that kept us dry for Sunday moves north and rain chances drift in by Monday afternoon. A 60 percent chance of rain is forecasted for Monday afternoon and evening as moisture moves in from the southwest.

A few more scattered showers are expected for Tuesday, however, nothing too heavy or widespread is expected.

The day we're most concerned with for flooding is Wednesday. A potent system moves in from the west along with abundant moisture partly due to the remnants of Hurricane Willa in the Pacific Ocean. This combination will bring big rain chances for much of Wednesday and it could really add up.

Lake Travis has dropped about a foot from where it peaked a couple days ago, but it's possible for it to climb higher this week due to the impending rain. This could impact how much water is released from Mansfield Dam, and consequently how high the Colorado River is through not only Austin but downstream.

If you live along the Colorado River, especially if you're close to the Highland Lakes, please keep close attention to what is happening with the weather.

By Thursday we can breathe a sigh of relief as rain chances drop significantly and sunshine comes out, setting the stage for a dynamite weather weekend.
