AUSTIN, Texas — It's official: May 2022 clocked in as the warmest May on record for Austin. That's according to the daily temperatures recorded at the Camp Mabry climate site.
Out of 31 days, 27 recorded above-average daily high temperatures. That's 87% of the entire month. Two days fell below average and two days hit the daily average high temperatures.
The average temperature for May 2022 was 82.3 degrees. This number is calculated by factoring in both the daytime high and overnight low temperatures. The title of "warmest May on record" was previously held by May 2018, with an average temperature of 80.6 degrees.
Unfortunately, we're not seeing any relief from heat in sight. The temperature outlook for the next six to 10 days continues to trend above average. Our current forecast calls for triple-digit temperatures to return to Austin as early as this weekend.
