HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A new CenterPoint map that went live on Friday shows estimated dates for power restoration across the Houston area, but we've heard from many of you who question its accuracy.
Previously, the map only showed which neighborhoods should have power, but only provided an estimate of when to expect the lights back for some areas.
Many CenterPoint customers are on their sixth day without power in the Houston area after Beryl caused widespread destruction and power outages across the region.
The new, color-coded map tells customers when to expect their power back:
- July 14
- July 15
- July 16
- July 17
- July 18
- July 19
- Restoration date pending review
We've heard from many of you, frustrated that the map shows your address in an 'energized' area, though you don't have power. CenterPoint said that may be because you're part of what they call a nested outage.
A "nested outage" means CenterPoint systems indicated power was restored to equipment serving your area, but your home may be impacted due to a more localized issue such as a damaged fuse line or transformer.
According to CenterPoint, another possibility could be a tree on your service line that runs directly to your home.
A previous CenterPoint outage map went down in May during the derecho. It released a new one earlier this week, but it was confusing for some people.
Their website now shows three different maps: one that has exact dates, one showing restoration progress and another showing the peak outages during Beryl's path through Southeast Texas.
