Port Aransas begins long road to recovery after Harvey

Port Aransas was one of the hardest hit Texas towns when Hurricane Harvey made landfall.

Port Aransas was one of the hardest hit Texas towns when Hurricane Harvey made landfall.

More than two weeks after the storm, the town remains unrecognizable and covered in rubble and debris.

Hurricane Harvey was still gaining strength when it hit the Texas Gulf Coast with winds of 130 to 140 mph.

A small stretch of coastline including Rockport, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, and Bayside suffered heavy damage and destruction of property.

Behringer’s Landing Bar and Grill in Port Aransas was one of the businesses nearly destroyed in the storm.

“We pulled up in the parking lot and we just stood there are cried … it was all we could do,” the owner of the restaurant said.

The owner has vowed to rebuild.

“The one thing out of this whole bad situation is that it’s restored my faith in humanity," the owner said. "Just to see the kindness and caring everybody has for one another."
