Multiple vehicle collision due to icing results in two 'trauma alerts' early Tuesday morning

Additional ambulances were called to the scene, but the response time was extended due to severe icing conditions on the road.

AUSTIN, Texas — A multiple vehicle collision due to icing resulted in two people being declared as "trauma alerts" early Tuesday morning.

At 6:12 a.m. on Jan. 31, the Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) responded to a multiple vehicle collision between the 5000 and 7475 blocks of North 130 northbound due to icing.

Once medics were on scene, they declared two adults as "trauma alerts" because they "either jumped or were struck and thrown from the bridge," a tweet from ATCEMS stated.

Additional ambulances were called to the scene, but the response time was extended due to severe icing conditions on the road.

The two "trauma alert" adults were transported to a nearby Dell Seton hospital. Both had serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. One person who sustained minor injuries refused EMS transport.

EMS is no longer on the scene and no further details are available. ATCEMS included in its last update tweet to "stay home, stay safe, stay in your car."

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
